I posted this on YouTube in response to an anti-Catholic video:

This isn't entirely honest. Verse 37 isn't present in all manuscripts (predating the KJV). Textual variants can be verified through comparison with other manuscripts for correctness and to mark errors. Some points to think on/pray about: -If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans Ch 10). If I was baptized as a baby and believe, what saves me? Given that it says believe, it doesn't say during baptism. -In Acts Ch 16 whole households were baptized. -In keeping with Romans Ch 14, who cares! Don't set up stumbling blocks for your brothers and sisters. -In keeping with Sola Gratia, it is the Holy Spirit working in baptism that legitimizes the rite, nothing I do? I cannot earn my salvation, no matter how much I believe. If I am too young to believe as a baby, and He can do more than I can ask or imagine, is baptism invalidated because I didn't do something (believe)? What about the handicap or the mentally ill? Sucks to be them, I guess. Hope they understand enough. Believe as a child. -While I understand the insidious nature of (or implication of) saying that Joseph was Jesus' father by changing the text from the KJV, what was the intent? Luke's own account of the Gospel shows the lineage through Mary and Joseph. Besides, John Ch 1 makes it pretty clear who Jesus is; unless you're a JW, I'm pretty sure the Bible made this fairly clear. -I don't need to be re-baptized (Ephesians Ch 4). -Methinks thou doth support thine doctrine by thine interpretation of scripture. Love the KJV btw, not the original English translation though. -Was the criminal on the Cross baptized? -Sola Fide, if I believe, is His grace enough, or am I saved by works (*I* must do something)? -In Jesus' own instructions, He says to baptize in the name of th Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Period? -Judge not a fellow servant of the Master, telling them their baptism is invalid. Fellow Christians are not the enemy. There is one body. Focus your energy somewhere else. Now I'm arguing fruitlessly on social media, so thanks a lot for that. If you're not thinking TLDR by now... Pax Vobis!

RE: FATHER, protect me from sacrilege and false doctrine

No, it’s in Mark Ch 10; I bought in to the dawaguys talking points.

Subject: FATHER, protect me from sacrilege and false doctrine

I was this many days old when I realized that the doctrine of Substitutionary Atonement is not straightforwardly mentioned in the Gospels.  It is there by inference.  And, that bothers me.  Although, I don’t know why.  I’ll have to explore that emotion.  It is, however, very black and white in the epistles and in the Old Testament.  It is there.  A strongly held belief of mine since before memory, I am bothered.

I’ve been watching a lot of Islamic focused Christian Apologetics as of late, and have been exposed to Muslim objections.  So, that could be the reason that I’m aware, that it’s at the forefront of my mind.  So, there’s that, but it doesn’t matter.  The epistles teach SA as well as, technically, that’s not the same as belief in Jesus Christ.

If we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that He was raised from the dead, we will be saved.  For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believed in Him should not die, but have everlasting life.  If we eat of His flesh and drink of His blood, we will have eternal life.  So, we don’t have to understand SA or the Trinity, for that matter.  We only have to believe; God is beyond human comprehension anyway.

For the record, I do believe—and accept the gift—that Christ died for my sins, that I may be not judged.  I just am shocked that it is not called out in the Gospels (apparently) specifically.  We base doctrine on the canonical 66 books, so I’m good.

Romans 16

16 is the chapter I'd leave out, a roll call.  Except, it has some stuff in there about Paul having a scribe (interesting), about Jesus crushing Satan, about avoiding division, about women deacons, and about prophesy.

What does your heart tell you is wrong?

Chapter 14 deserves it's own post, all on it's own; and, I've written about it many times before.

• Who are we to judge the servant of another?  We shouldn't.
• There really isn't anything wrong with making days holy or saying they are not.
• Nothing is unclean in and of itself.
• Don't cause your brother/sister to fall; don't do what they think is unholy around them.
• If you think it's wrong, don't do it.

Romans 1:28-2:4

All these things are wrong.  But, don't judge; because, you do it too. You pass judgement on yourself when you judge others.

Olives

Being that I am a grafted in olive branch, I take Paul's warning to not be boastful seriously.  Also, I am comforted that Israel will be easier grafted in when it is saved.

Written on Their Heart

If the gentiles, who did not know the law, followed it because it was written on their heart, are they lost.  I'm thinking not.  After all, Jesus descended to the dead.

Sinful

Sin in sinful; it causes the law--which is good and righteous--to cause us to die.

Romans

Romans is such an awesome book.  I'm going to blog some thoughts about it.

Lust Wrath Pride

Pars mei putat me propter superbiam meam puniri. Sed nolo in illum locum obscurum in gyrum prolabi.

Frustrated Alone Unheard

Amici mei Christiani mihi dicunt hoc consilium Dei esse et id acceptandum esse. Nemo praeter me conflictum utilitatum videre videtur. Precatio eorum non est utilis, cum mihi reprehensa videatur, intenta in eo quomodo rem percipiam. Pascha tempus mutationis est. Forsitan haec balaena mea est.

Psalm 23:1-3 KJV

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

A Part of Trevor's Message:

Pastor Trevor said today that God isn't--and, I'm paraphrasing again--disappointed when we have desires.  He knows that we are week. Rather, when we fail, He entices us back to Him.  Trying to be self reliant and not rely on God is folly.  That cycle of trying to beat sin by shear will, failing, and blaming ourselves rather than asking God to deliver us must die at the foot of the cross.  We have to look at the one who saves us as the Israelites looked at the bronze snake on the pole.

Blessed are those who believe not having seen?

Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel said that he knew Jesus.  And that. you have to know Jesus.  Many people believe in Jesus.  But, belief in Him leads to knowing Him.  This is a hard teaching.  I've always been a those who believe not having seen kind of Christian.  Never having had a road to Damascus experience or a supernatural event in my faith journey, what does this mean?  I know that I love Jesus; I can feel it when it thing on Him, when I'm in the presence of God, and when I contemplate the greatest act of love.  Maybe I need to follow St. Teresa of Avila's example and spend more time in the prayer of silence.  Maybe I need to spend more time in contemplative prayer.  Maybe I need to seek to be in the presence of Jesus more.
